Dubai, UAE — April 2026 — The Emirates A380, already celebrated as one of aviation’s most iconic aircraft, has just soared to a new technological milestone with the completion of the first installation of next-generation Starlink Wi-Fi onboard.

Returning to Dubai this week after undergoing installation and certification in Newquay, UK, this A380 marks a departure from the airline’s first-generation systems, which offered less than 1 Mbps of total aircraft bandwidth, according to a statement.

By integrating three Starlink antennas on each superjumbo, Emirates has boosted onboard Wi-Fi a thousand-fold, delivering a connectivity experience that promises to be better than what passengers enjoy at home—all while cruising at 40,000 feet.

With more A380s scheduled for accelerated installation throughout 2026, travelers across all cabins will soon enjoy complimentary, seamless access that allows streaming, gaming, browsing, and working on personal devices, with future enhancements including Live TV streaming initially on personal devices and later integrated into seatback screens.

Engineering such a leap on the world’s largest passenger aircraft presented unique challenges. The A380’s double-decker layout and high passenger capacity demanded a specialized configuration capable of delivering over 2 Gbps of total aircraft bandwidth, featuring additional wireless access points and a third antenna compared to Emirates’ Starlink-equipped Boeing 777s.

Optimized inter-deck integration ensures a seamless Wi-Fi experience, with high speeds varying only by usage and device capability.

The rollout is now accelerating, with installations set to begin soon at Emirates Engineering facilities in Dubai, joining 25 Boeing 777-300ER aircraft already equipped with Starlink. To date, more than 650,000 Emirates customers have already experienced next-generation connectivity firsthand on Starlink‑equipped flights.

“The introduction of Starlink on the A380 builds on Emirates’ ongoing investment into redefining the customer journey, including one of the most ambitious retrofit programmes in aviation history,” the statement said.

So far, 93 aircraft have been fully refurbished with Premium Economy cabins, enhanced Business and First Class suites, upgraded Economy interiors, and inflight systems offering over 6,500 entertainment channels.
Complementing these hardware upgrades, Emirates opened an $8 million Centre of Hospitality Excellence in mid-2025 to train its 25,000-cabin crew in the art of onboard service.

From its Onboard Lounge and First Class Shower Spa to now seamless Starlink connectivity across all cabin classes, the Emirates A380 experience evolves once again—delivering a fully connected journey in the sky.
