Sharjah has opened a new 1.8-kilometre running and walking track at Green Belt Park, offering residents and visitors a dedicated outdoor fitness and leisure destination designed to promote healthier lifestyles and community wellbeing.
The new rubberised track, officially opened by Sharjah City Municipality on Monday, has been built around the perimeter of the park and is designed in line with international safety and quality standards. The facility caters to walkers, joggers and runners, while also featuring eco-friendly lighting systems, landscaped greenery and seating areas to enhance the visitor experience.
Municipality officials said the project was completed following the final construction and finishing works, with a strong focus on sustainability, comfort and long-term durability. The running surface has been specially engineered to provide flexibility for smooth movement while resisting wear and colour fading caused by weather conditions and heavy usage.
Engineer Hassan Abdul Razzaq, Director of the Projects and Facilities Maintenance Department at Sharjah Municipality, said the walkway was implemented according to the highest international technical specifications to ensure user safety and comfort.
He added that the municipality carefully designed the infrastructure to reflect its commitment to quality public facilities and sustainable urban development.
The project also includes environmentally friendly lighting poles to improve visibility during evening hours, alongside landscaped surroundings aimed at creating a relaxing and attractive recreational environment for park visitors.
According to the municipality, the initiative forms part of a broader strategy to expand recreational infrastructure across the emirate in line with Sharjah’s continued urban, tourism and population growth.
Officials said the municipality remains focused on developing public spaces that encourage physical activity, improve quality of life and strengthen social interaction within the community.
