Etihad Rail has marked a key milestone in the UAE’s transport sector after its first passenger train successfully completed a trial journey from Fujairah to Abu Dhabi, paving the way for the official rollout of nationwide passenger services.

The inaugural service departed from Fujairah Station and arrived at Mohamed bin Zayed City Station in Abu Dhabi, signalling the next phase in the country’s expanding rail infrastructure. The journey was welcomed with celebrations, underlining the significance of the moment for the UAE’s long-term mobility plans.

Passengers onboard the historic trip described the experience as smooth, fast and comfortable, with many expressing pride in being part of the first official passenger journey on the national rail network.

The launch represents an important step in Etihad Rail’s strategy to strengthen connectivity between key emirates, offering an alternative mode of transport aimed at reducing road congestion and supporting sustainable travel.

Etihad Rail confirmed that commercial passenger operations will begin on September 30, initially linking Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Al Dhaid and Fujairah. The network is expected to expand further into the Al Dhafra Region by December 2026, followed by Sharjah in March 2027.

The passenger rail project forms part of the UAE’s broader vision to build an integrated transport ecosystem that boosts economic growth, enhances tourism and improves mobility for residents and visitors across the country.

With the trial now completed, attention shifts to the upcoming public launch, which is expected to reshape intercity travel across the Emirates.
