Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (ADIB) has become the first financial institution worldwide to adopt the Visa Threat Intelligence Platform, a new solution designed to help banks identify cyber risks before they lead to fraud and financial losses.
ADIB worked with Visa to develop the platform’s initial use cases and operational framework, integrating the technology into the bank’s existing fraud prevention system.
The platform combines cyber threat data with payment intelligence to help financial institutions detect compromised credentials, data breaches, phishing attempts and other emerging risks at an earlier stage. It also supports faster investigations and incident responses by providing cybersecurity, fraud and risk teams with real-time, actionable information tailored to the financial services sector.
Amit Malhotra, Global Head of Retail Banking at ADIB, said the adoption reflects the bank’s commitment to delivering a secure and trusted banking experience.
He added that identifying payment risks earlier and improving response capabilities would strengthen customer protection while supporting a more resilient and seamless digital banking journey.
Visa said the platform uses the same cybersecurity capabilities deployed to protect its global payments network. The company currently blocks around 90 million cyberattacks and 11 million phishing emails every month across more than 200 countries.
Salima Gutieva, Visa’s Vice President and Country Manager for the UAE, said the platform would help financial institutions strengthen their resilience, protect customers and respond more effectively to emerging threats.
She said ADIB’s adoption demonstrates the importance of cooperation between banks and payment technology providers in supporting the UAE’s vision for a secure and inclusive payments ecosystem.
Walter Lironi, Visa’s Senior Vice President and Head of Value-Added Services for Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa, said cyberattacks were becoming increasingly frequent, targeted and difficult to identify at an early stage.
He said the platform brings cyber and payment intelligence together, giving financial institutions clearer insights to reduce risks before they develop into fraudulent activity.
