The Arab League has stressed the need to equip young people with digital literacy skills to combat misinformation, verify online content and navigate the growing challenges posed by artificial intelligence (AI) and social media.
In a statement issued ahead of Global Media and Information Literacy Week, observed from October 24 to 31, the organisation highlighted the importance of promoting responsible technology use and strengthening young people’s ability to critically assess information shared across digital platforms.
The Arab League also called for closer collaboration between media organisations and educational institutions to advance media literacy across the Arab world, improve professional standards and strengthen public trust in information sources.
The statement further highlighted the Arab Strategy for Media and Information Literacy, adopted by the Council of Arab Information Ministers in November 2025. The strategy aims to address the challenges of rapid digital transformation while fostering a more informed and digitally responsible society.
The initiative reflects ongoing regional efforts to strengthen media awareness, encourage critical thinking and prepare younger generations to navigate an increasingly complex digital information landscape.
