Burjeel Holdings, through its intelligent healthcare platform AiMed Solutions, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Proximie to develop artificial intelligence-powered operating rooms aimed at improving surgical efficiency, clinical decision-making and patient care.
The agreement, signed during the Abu Dhabi Future Health Summit 2026, introduces a four-stage development programme designed to integrate advanced AI technologies into surgical environments and improve coordination among healthcare professionals.
The partnership builds on the ongoing deployment of Proximie’s surgical intelligence platform across 10 operating rooms at Burjeel Medical City in Abu Dhabi. This implementation serves as the foundation for Burjeel’s ONE OR initiative, which includes 45 functional requirements to be developed through the collaboration.
Four-Stage Roadmap to Transform Surgical Operations
The first phase will introduce real-time surgical intelligence tools, allowing medical teams to monitor operating room performance through shared screens and mobile devices. Healthcare professionals will receive updates on surgical schedules, potential delays and upcoming procedures, alongside AI-assisted clinical documentation to support coordination.
The second phase will focus on improving operating room productivity through agentic AI, automated workflow monitoring, digital surgical safety checklists and more efficient hospital bed management.
During the third phase, the technology will expand beyond traditional operating rooms to include endoscopy units, cardiac catheterisation laboratories and interventional radiology departments. This stage will also introduce improvements in patient journey management and communication with patients’ families.
The final phase will incorporate surgical instrument tracking and advanced performance monitoring systems, providing clinical, operational and financial insights to support hospital management and surgical teams.
Combining AI Technology with Clinical Expertise
Under the agreement, AiMed Solutions will contribute its expertise in healthcare system development, clinical workflow transformation and AI integration, while Proximie will provide its surgical intelligence technology and engineering capabilities.
AiMed Solutions has experience deploying more than two dozen AI applications across clinical and operational functions within the wider healthcare ecosystem. The collaboration will bring together this experience with Proximie’s technology and the expertise of Burjeel’s clinical teams to create scalable solutions for modern surgical environments.
Proximie’s AI-powered surgical intelligence platform is already deployed in more than 700 operating rooms globally. It integrates real-time information from ambient sensors, medical devices and electronic medical records to provide healthcare professionals with a comprehensive view of surgical activities.
Using computer vision, predictive AI models and real-time data analysis, the platform can identify potential delays, anticipate workflow requirements and recommend appropriate actions throughout the surgical process.
The technology also supports connectivity across multiple hospital locations, enabling healthcare providers to improve operational consistency and surgical performance.
Strengthening Abu Dhabi’s Healthcare Innovation
Safeer Ahamed, Group Head of Shared Services at Burjeel Holdings, highlighted the importance of involving healthcare professionals in developing practical AI solutions.
“By bringing clinical expertise directly into the development process, we want to create intelligent solutions that are practical, scalable, and capable of setting new standards for surgical care,” he said.
Dr. Nadine Hachach-Haram, Founder and CEO of Proximie, emphasised the role of real-time information in improving surgical outcomes and operational efficiency.
“The best surgical care depends on every team knowing what is happening in the operating room and what needs to happen next. Proximie’s surgical intelligence platform gives them that, predicting how the day will run and recommending the right next step,” she said.
She added that the partnership seeks to create smarter and more efficient operating rooms while improving the overall patient experience and quality of surgical care.
The initiative is expected to support the development of AI-enabled surgical infrastructure in Abu Dhabi, positioning Burjeel Medical City as a regional reference for intelligent operating room technologies.
