Bitcoin 2025 event in Las Vegas aims to set a new Guinness World Record

For most Bitcoin transactions in a single day

In a move to spotlight Bitcoin’s real-world utility as money, BTC Inc. and BTC Media have announced a bold attempt to secure a Guinness World Record title for the most Bitcoin point-of-sale transactions completed in eight hours.

The record attempt will occur during Bitcoin 2025, the world’s largest conference, which will be held from May 27 to 29, 2025, at the Venetian Conference Center in Las Vegas.

With the record attempt set to occur on-site, organisers hope to send a strong global message about Bitcoin’s evolution from a speculative asset to a practical and decentralised payment system. This year’s conference marks the first time an official Guinness World Records attempt will be embedded into a Bitcoin-focused event.

According to BTC Inc.’s Chief Financial Officer Didier Lewis, the effort is more than a publicity stunt. “Bitcoin 2025 is an opportunity for the community to demonstrate Bitcoin’s real-world functionality as a medium of exchange,” he said. “The Bolt Card is a key part of this experience, offering attendees an easy way to purchase Bitcoin. By enabling direct, contactless payments across the event, we aim to showcase Bitcoin’s readiness as a modern and practical currency.”

To support the initiative, 4,000 Bolt Cards will be distributed to attendees. These NFC-enabled payment cards are preloaded and connected to the Bitcoin Lightning Network, allowing instant transactions. The Bolt Cards come in four exclusive, limited-edition designs, each honouring a significant figure in Bitcoin’s journey: Senator Cynthia Lummis, Michael Saylor, Satoshi Nakamoto, and Jack Dorsey. Each edition will be limited to 1,000 units.

The record attempt will rely heavily on using the Bolt Card throughout the venue. Attendees are encouraged to purchase via participating vendors, which will accept Bitcoin Lightning payments at point-of-sale terminals integrated with the Bolt infrastructure.

The Official Bitcoin Magazine Store, located at the venue’s main entrance, is a significant activating support for the record attempt. The store offers many Bitcoin-themed merchandise, from hardware wallets and books to clothing and artwork. All products will be available at a 21% discount when purchased with Bitcoin, further incentivising the currency’s usage for everyday transactions.

Emphasising seamless, contactless Bitcoin payments is part of a broader strategy to reshape public perceptions of digital currency. Organisers say the Guinness World Records attempt is a natural extension of Bitcoin 2025’s mission to demonstrate that Bitcoin is not just an investment vehicle but a usable, global financial system.

Bitcoin 2025 is expected to draw more than 30,000 attendees worldwide. With over 300 exhibitors and 500 confirmed speakers, it promises to be the most significant Bitcoin event of the year. Participants include developers, entrepreneurs, investors, policymakers, and advocates united by their belief in Bitcoin’s long-term potential as a tool for economic freedom.

In past years, the Bitcoin Conference has been a launching pad for influential ideas, partnerships, and technologies within the decentralised finance space. This year, adding a Guinness World Records attempt aims to elevate the event’s profile further and provide a measurable benchmark of adoption and engagement.

The Lightning Network, a second-layer solution built atop the Bitcoin blockchain, will be instrumental in achieving the high transaction volume required for the record. Known for facilitating fast and low-cost payments, the Lightning Network is increasingly considered the infrastructure needed to scale Bitcoin for everyday use.

Attendees who use the Bolt Card to purchase will directly contribute to the record attempt. Every successful point-of-sale transaction made with Bitcoin via the Lightning Network will count towards the official tally, and third-party verifiers will be on-site to ensure compliance with Guinness World Records standards.

The conference’s organisers are optimistic about the record attempt. They note the growing momentum behind Bitcoin as a medium of exchange, especially in the wake of recent global economic instability. They argue that showcasing Bitcoin’s utility on a grand scale could help cement its role in the future of money.

With just weeks to go before the event, anticipation is building among Bitcoin enthusiasts and the broader tech community. If successful, the record would mark a pivotal moment in Bitcoin’s history and provide tangible evidence of its viability in everyday commerce.
