Burjeel Holdings has launched new AI-powered Cath Labs at Burjeel Hospital Abu Dhabi and Burjeel Specialty Hospital in Sharjah, strengthening its capabilities in complex cardiovascular and image-guided procedures.

The new facilities are equipped with Siemens Healthineers’ ARTIS icono.vision platform, which integrates artificial intelligence, high-definition imaging, advanced 3D visualisation and real-time procedural guidance.

According to Burjeel Holdings, the technology is designed to give physicians clearer views of complex anatomy and enhanced guidance during technically demanding interventions.

The Cath Labs will operate as multidisciplinary facilities, supporting specialists in Interventional Cardiology, Structural Heart Services, Vascular Surgery, Interventional Radiology, Neurointerventional Procedures and other areas that depend on image-guided treatments.

The technology can be used across a wide range of procedures, including complex coronary interventions, chronic total occlusion procedures, structural heart interventions, peripheral vascular therapies, embolisation procedures, interventional oncology treatments and advanced aortic repairs.

One of the platform’s key features is OPTIQ AI, which analyses live images and automatically adjusts imaging parameters while reducing background noise in real time.

The system is designed to maintain high image quality even when using very low radiation doses, supporting the ALARA principle of keeping radiation exposure as low as reasonably achievable while maintaining the image quality needed for treatment.

The platform also offers 200-degree rotational 3D imaging, rapid 3D acquisition capabilities, flexible ceiling-rail positioning and system positioning accuracy of better than 0.5 millimetres.

These features are intended to provide physicians with greater flexibility and precision when carrying out complex image-guided interventions.

Dr. Georgie Thomas, Consultant Interventional Cardiologist and Head of Department at Burjeel Hospital Abu Dhabi, said clear and accurate visualisation of anatomy is critical when performing complex procedures.

“In complex interventions, having a clear and accurate view of the anatomy throughout the procedure is critical. The new system gives us enhanced imaging and guidance when navigating challenging cases, while also helping us manage radiation and contrast use,” Dr. Thomas said.

“With the additional Cath Lab capacity, we can treat more patients and expand the range of advanced procedures available at the hospital,” he added.
