Dubai Electricity and Water Authority has supplied more than 62,000 megawatt hours of electricity through its Green Charger Initiative since its launch in 2014, underlining the rapid rise of electric vehicle adoption across Dubai.

The utility said the power delivered through its charging network has enabled over 310 million kilometres of EV travel, marking a major milestone in the emirate’s shift towards cleaner transport solutions.

The initiative, launched to accelerate sustainable mobility, has seen strong growth in charging activity over the past 12 years as more residents and businesses move towards electric vehicles.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer said the programme aligns with Dubai’s wider ambition to become a smart and sustainable city by strengthening the link between energy and mobility.

He said DEWA has focused on building a reliable charging infrastructure based on international standards to encourage wider EV adoption and help cut carbon emissions across the emirate.

The initiative supports key government roadmaps including the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, Dubai Green Mobility Strategy 2030, and the UAE Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative.

DEWA currently operates four charging formats across Dubai: ultra-fast chargers, fast chargers, public chargers and wall-box chargers. Many of the fast charging units are located at petrol stations for easier public access.

Dubai now has 2,223 EV charging stations across the city, while the number of registered Green Charger users has reached 23,600.

The charging stations are available around the clock at strategic locations, with users able to find them via DEWA’s website, smart app, and 14 other digital platforms.
