Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has officially launched public operations of its autonomous taxi service in the Umm Suqeim and Jumeirah areas, offering residents and visitors the opportunity to experience free driverless rides as the emirate advances its smart mobility ambitions.
The autonomous taxi service is being operated in collaboration with Apollo Go and autonomous driving technology company WeRide. Users can book the driverless vehicles through the Uber and Apollo Go mobile applications.
Announcing the launch on social media, the RTA encouraged the public to try the new service, stating: “Your next ride could be autonomous, and it’s currently free.”
The public rollout follows Dubai’s earlier announcement of the commercial introduction of autonomous taxis, which began with an initial fleet of 100 self-driving vehicles integrated into the city’s transport network.
Officials plan to gradually expand the autonomous fleet over the coming years to meet growing demand for smart transport solutions while supporting Dubai’s long-term mobility goals.
The initiative forms part of the Dubai Self-Driving Transport Strategy, which seeks to increase the adoption of autonomous transportation across the emirate and enhance the efficiency of urban mobility.
According to the RTA, the deployment reinforces Dubai’s position as a global leader in autonomous mobility, backed by advanced infrastructure, a supportive regulatory framework, and intelligent transport systems designed to accelerate the future of driverless transportation.
