Syncs with UAE’s national objectives
Abu Dhabi Maritime Academy (ADMA), a leading maritime training institution within the AD Ports Group, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ID Quantique (IDQ), a global leader in quantum-safe cybersecurity solutions.
The partnership aims to explore the deployment of quantum-safe technologies to secure maritime infrastructure and enhance digital communications against evolving cyber threats.
The collaboration, initiated through the QInnovision Quantum Adoption Programme, focuses on developing quantum-safe cybersecurity services tailored to the unique challenges of the maritime sector. The MoU also includes the potential establishment of talent development programs in quantum-safe security, addressing the need for a skilled workforce in this emerging field.
The partnership leverages IDQ’s expertise in quantum-safe communication and cryptography to build robust data protection frameworks that can withstand cyber threats. The MoU outlines plans to develop quantum-safe infrastructure and Platforms as a Service (PaaS) models, facilitating secure data transfer across international shipping lanes and port operations.
The partnership extends beyond the UAE, aiming to enhance global maritime infrastructure resilience. The development of quantum-safe infrastructure and Platform as a Service (PaaS) models will facilitate secure data transfer across international shipping lanes and port operations, ensuring the protection of critical operations in a digital environment where threats are constantly evolving.
The initiative also aligns with the UAE’s national strategies for technological leadership and international maritime cybersecurity efforts. The country’s approach includes the implementation of a new cryptography law and the deployment of post-quantum algorithms to safeguard critical data against future risks.
Dr Yasser Al Wahedi, President of Abu Dhabi Maritime Academy, stated: “The advent of AI and quantum computing in the maritime industry highlights the importance of cybersecurity research. We are pleased to explore this collaboration with IDQ to address anticipated challenges with quantum computing tools.”
Grégoire Ribordy, CEO and co-founder of ID Quantique, added: “With increasing cybersecurity threats, the need for robust encryption is growing. We are proud to explore opportunities with ADMA to implement IDQ’s quantum-safe solutions and training in the Abu Dhabi maritime sector.”
Malak Trabelsi Loeb, CEO of Vernewell and spokesperson for the QInnovision Consortium, also noted: “Our goal is to drive real-world impact with quantum innovations in critical sectors like maritime. This exploratory collaboration aims to bridge academia, industry, and government to address urgent cybersecurity concerns.”
