Mobily and iBasis strengthen global mobile data services pact

Signed at Capacity Middle East 2025

Etihad Etisalat (Mobily), one of Saudi Arabia’s leading digital enablers in the technology, media, and telecom (TMT) sector, has extended its partnership with iBasis, a global leader in communications solutions for operators and digital players.

The new agreement, signed at Capacity Middle East 2025, renews their multi-service IPX (Interconnection Exchange) agreement, focusing on roaming services.

This renewed partnership builds on a strong foundation established in 2014 when iBasis first collaborated with Mobily through an international voice services partnership. Over the years, iBasis has consistently provided Mobily with top-tier mobile data solutions, contributing to the telecommunications giant’s sustained international traffic growth.

Key to this success has been iBasis’s ability to offer economies of scale, cost stability, and dedicated service management, all of which have underpinned Mobily’s impressive growth in international mobile data traffic.

The renewal of this partnership marks a significant milestone in their decade-long collaboration, as Mobily has seen a tenfold increase in mobile data traffic over the past three years. This growth has required robust infrastructure, and the renewal ensures that Mobily will be better equipped to handle surges in mobile data traffic, especially during high-demand periods such as the Hajj, Ramadan, and peak tourism seasons. The move further solidifies the network’s scalability, ensuring its reliability and capacity to meet the ever-growing demands of its customers.

Commenting on the renewal, Thamer Alfadda, Senior Vice President of Wholesale at Mobily, said: “Our collaboration with iBasis has always been focused on ensuring the delivery of high-quality, scalable mobile services to our customers. This milestone renewal reinforces our commitment to continuous innovation and growth as we explore new opportunities, including IoT services, while maintaining the exceptional performance our customers expect from us.”

Patrick George, CEO of iBasis, stated: “We are honoured to renew our partnership with Mobily, reflecting a shared vision to drive digital transformation and improve consumer experiences. Mobily continues to take proactive steps towards delivering top-tier services, and we are proud to support them with our advanced IPX capabilities. This partnership will enable Mobily to expand its market reach and achieve its strategic objectives.”

In 2024, iBasis achieved notable recognition, including being named the Leading Tier One IPX Network by ROCCO and winning champion titles in Roaming Analytics, Signalling Security, Firewall, and Roaming Fraud Management from Kaleido Intelligence.

Mobily also garnered awards in 2024, including the “Best Wholesale Company Middle East” title at the Telecom Review Excellence Awards and the “Best Subsea Innovation” at the Global Connectivity Awards.
