Oman hosts Middle East Space Conference 2024

Space emerges as a key sector for the Gulf nation

The Middle East space sector has taken off in earnest in 2024, with Oman’s Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology organising the Middle East Space Conference (MESC) from January 8-10, 2024, at the Oman Exhibition and Convention Centre in Muscat City.

In association with Euroconsult, the three-day event is being attended by 300+ senior executives, 70+ executive speakers and 20+ exhibitors representing the Omani, regional and global space industry.

Oman is hosting MESC 2024 as part of Oman Vision 2040, the nation’s strategic roadmap for the future, with the aspiration that the event will showcase Omani space projects, foster global partnerships, attract investors to the country, and engage in discussions on the industry’s most pressing topics.

The vision of Oman’s Space Policy (2023-2033) is for the country to become a regional gateway for space applications to empower economic diversification and unlock future opportunities while considering four pillars:

Economic diversification: Space to generate commercial opportunities in a digital economy

Capacity building: Space to boost innovation in a knowledge-based society.

National security: Space to safeguard sovereignty for a secured country.

Environment and natural resources: Space to support sustainable exploration and use of resources.

Oman’s space policy outlines several focus areas, including satellite communications, Earth Observation, and ground networks.

Here is the complete rundown of what is transpiring at MESC 2024:

January 8, 2024: Space policy and industry: Space financing, strategies for Middle Eastern space agencies, ground segment ecosystem, and international partnerships, including a snapshot of Oman’s space ecosystem.

January 9, 2024: Space application: Broadband connectivity, satcom service market dynamics in the Middle East, and Earth Observation’s pivotal role in urban planning, energy, and sustainability.

January 10, 2024: Enablers: Enabling tomorrow’s markets, gain insights into the regulatory landscape, Middle East space financing, and the markets destined to shape the future.
