Lufthansa unveils unique ‘Helping Hands’ Airbus A321neo

Marking 25th anniversary of Help Alliance

Lufthansa has unveiled a striking new symbol of solidarity to celebrate the 25th anniversary of its charitable arm, Help Alliance.

A specially adorned Airbus A321neo, registered D-AIEP, now graces the skies with a vibrant ‘Helping Hands’ livery. The unique design, featuring colourful handprints donated by supporters worldwide, represents a quarter-century of commitment, hope, and collective effort towards a brighter future.

The A321neo will fly on Lufthansa’s continental network, acting as a flying emblem of Help Alliance’s work. The 297 handprints are part of a fundraising campaign in which individuals symbolically donate their marks to support the initiative. Each handprint signifies solidarity, a belief that, through collective action, we can indeed make the world a better place.

Vivian Spohr, the patroness of the Help Alliance and a key figure behind the project, expressed her gratitude for the generosity of the supporters. She stated, “Every single handprint on this plane stands for solidarity in action and the belief that we can improve the world together. I thank all our supporters for making this anniversary project possible. For 25 years, Help Alliance has created opportunities for children and young people who would otherwise often have no prospects.”

The organisation has touched the lives of thousands of young people, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, offering them hope for a better future.

“As patroness, it is a matter close to my heart to help ensure that we can continue to give hope and a future to many young people,” Spohr added.

The A321neo is the second aircraft in the Lufthansa Group fleet to sport the Help Alliance branding. Since 2022, a similar Airbus emblazoned with a Helping Hands livery has been flying with Swiss airline Edelweiss, further amplifying the global reach of this critical initiative.

Handprint campaign

The handprint campaign is a key part of the Help Alliance’s fundraising efforts. Nearly two-thirds of the available handprints have already been claimed by donors. However, supporters still have an opportunity to participate and leave their mark on this unique aircraft, which will be a visible sign of solidarity for years to come.

Founded in 1999 by a group of dedicated Lufthansa employees, Help Alliance consolidates the charitable efforts of individual staff members into one cohesive and impactful initiative. Over the past quarter-century, the organisation has grown into a significant force within the Lufthansa Group, focusing on improving young people’s education, training, and employment opportunities.

Today, the Help Alliance supports over 60 projects in 29 countries, working with local partners to create sustainable prospects for children, young adults, and communities. The organisation continues to use the Lufthansa Group’s resources and network to strengthen its reach and impact.

Through its projects, the Help Alliance aims to equip young people with the skills and confidence they need to build better futures. These efforts are particularly crucial in regions where young people may otherwise have limited opportunities due to economic, social, or political challenges.

The Lufthansa Group’s commitment to corporate social responsibility, embodied through the Help Alliance, underscores the airline’s role as a force for good beyond its core aviation business. With continued support from donors and partners, the Help Alliance aims to create lasting change and offer hope to future generations.

As Lufthansa’s remarkable A321neo takes to the skies, it serves as a means of transport and a symbol of a shared mission to uplift those in need, showing the world that when people come together, they can make a significant difference.
