Dubai, UAE – Oct. 2026 – Google’s UK cloud services are back up after an hours-long outage disrupted several financial firms and public-sector websites.
Customers of digital banks, Revolut in particular, found themselves unable to use their cards in the middle of the day.
Alphabet’s Google said on Tuesday that its cloud services in the UK had been restored. Revolut said the outage disrupted multiple services, with its status page showing card payments and ATM withdrawals as affected. The firm stressed that customers’ money and data remained safe.
That reassurance did little to calm users on X, where complaints piled up through the day.
“We are currently experiencing a service disruption affecting multiple features,” Revolut Support told one customer who had asked to be let back in so they could order food.
The company said its engineering team was “actively working to restore full service as quickly as possible” and apologised for the inconvenience. The exchange drew hundreds of replies and more than 360,000 views.
Others were less patient. One user posted that their card had been declined in front of their girlfriend’s father and told Revolut to “count your days.” The post drew more than 24,000 likes.
yo @Revolut card just declined in front of my girls dad. count your days

Another, apparently abroad, wrote that they were on holiday and needed their card. In-app screenshots shared online showed a generic error message: “We’re sorry, something has gone wrong. Please try later.”

Lunchtime proved a flashpoint. A user in Ireland asked Revolut whether they could “have some money for my lunch,” saying they could not pay for anything. The post collected about 1,500 likes and 86,000 views.
Some users coped with humour. One joked that they had just been hired by Revolut “to vibe code some improvements to the app” and hoped their first day would go well. The post gathered more than 6,000 likes and 145,000 views.
I just got hired by @Revolut to vibe code some improvements to the app.
I hope my first day goes well!

Regulatory spotlight
The disruption put the spotlight on concerns among UK and EU regulators about the financial sector’s growing dependence on a small number of external technology providers, particularly cloud firms that support critical banking services.
For customers stranded at checkouts and restaurant tills, the issue was more immediate than regulatory debate. As one user put it, they just wanted to order their food before Revolut continued with the outage.
