Kuwait is finalising preparations at around 1,700 mosques nationwide to welcome worshippers for Taraweeh and late-night prayers during the holy month of Ramadan, according to local media reports.
Departments at the Kuwait Ministry of Islamic Affairs are completing maintenance and readiness works across the country’s six governorates. Efforts include routine servicing, deep cleaning, and preparing women’s prayer halls and external courtyards. Maintenance teams will operate around the clock throughout Ramadan.
Dedicated inspection teams have also been assigned to oversee contractors and ensure the timely completion of major works, covering civil, electrical, audio, air-conditioning and lift systems. Officials said no mosque will reopen unless all maintenance requirements are fully met, prioritising the safety and comfort of worshippers.
In parallel, the ministry is coordinating with several government entities, including the interior ministry, fire and civil defence, social affairs and health authorities. The cooperation aims to ensure safety, regulate donations, organise volunteer support, and provide ambulance and emergency medical services at designated Ramadan centres.
Additional measures will focus on preventing begging, monitoring donations, protecting worshippers’ vehicles and managing traffic around high-capacity mosques. Ramadan centres will be allocated based on local demand, while organised religious retreats will emphasise moderation, social awareness and shared community values.
