The UAE Ministry of Economy and Tourism has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the UAE Basketball Federation to strengthen intellectual property (IP) rights protection and support the development of a more innovative and sustainable sports sector.

The agreement was signed in the presence of Dr. Abdulrahman Hassan Al Muaini, Assistant Under-Secretary for the Intellectual Property Sector at the Ministry, and Abdullatif Nasser Al Fardan. The MoU was formalised by Ali Al Amiri and Fawzi Al Jaberi.

The partnership focuses on raising awareness of intellectual property rights within the sports community, regulating their use, and encouraging innovation and creativity among athletes. It also aims to safeguard rights linked to sports content and related activities, while supporting the development of joint initiatives that enhance the legal framework of the UAE’s sports industry.

Officials highlighted that the agreement marks a strategic step towards strengthening IP protection across the sports sector, particularly in basketball, while promoting a culture of innovation. The collaboration is also expected to reinforce coordination between government entities and sports organisations.

Both sides said the MoU aligns with the UAE’s broader vision to position itself as a regional and global hub for innovation and intellectual property protection, while advancing the growth of its sports ecosystem.
